The Police High Command yesterday launched a mobile app called, “NPF Rescue Me App” with a view to tackling insecurity challenges in the country, particularly crimes in the neighbourhood.
The formal launching came after the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, finished a comprehensive tour of the state-of-the-art National Command and Control Centre facility and the Nigeria Police Crime and Incidence Database Centre.
Speaking during the launching held at Force Headquarters Abuja, Egbetokun explained that the purpose of the tour was to emphasise his commitment to integrating smart policing strategies into the force.
The police chief urged his officers to fully leverage on the tools to enhance their operations and improve service delivery to the citizens, adding that efforts would continue in adopting cutting-edge technologies.

The IGP, however, appealed to all Nigerians to take the opportunity by downloading and using the app, noting that it is in line with the vision of the force to foster stronger community engagement.
He said, “This innovative mobile application provides a platform for citizens to quickly alert the Police Force in emergency situations, thereby facilitating prompt response and assistance.
“The ‘NPF Rescue Me App’ is available on both the ‘android’ and ‘ios’ application stores for free downloads and usage.”
Egbetokun also directed all investigation units and police formations to instantly reactivate the use of the applications installed at the NPCIDC, where the biometrics and other relevant data and information of every suspect will be updated and kept.
This, he said, would be for improved investigations and record keeping and it would be readily available to police operatives to ensure a credible electronic criminal database to support investigations.
