The Niger State Government has called on the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to assist in checking the influx of illegal and criminal immigrants into the state as part of effort to tackle insecurity.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, made the appeal when the state’s new comptroller of immigration, Nongo Samuel Shima, paid him a visit.

Matane said checkmating the influx of irregular migrants in the state would go a long way to stop the perpetration of crime in the state.

He reiterated the commitment of the state government to collaborate with the service in addressing the incessant security challenges in some parts of the state.

Earlier in his remarks, Mr Shima told the SSG that he was in his office to familiarise himself with the government and people of the state.

The comptroller reaffirmed the readiness of the service to partner with the state government in finding lasting solutions to the security challenges bedeviling parts of the state.
