This government is getting away with proper non-accountability to the people of Nigeria on account of a failed national security policy, but what makes it especially painful is the realisation that the traditional print and electronic media give lying government spokesmen the assurance of dissemination of the disinformation they cook up to explain for glaring non-actions in the protection of lives and property.
I think the media exists to query the mis-truths that an incompetent government wants published in the press, but has the government been too smart for newsmen by just dangling the assurance that a pliable media house would have its editor-in-chief plucked off and away to Aso Rock at some point as some loudmouthed and cussing spokesman?
The media must stop publishing self-serving statements of “successes” against terrorists and bandits that are constantly being issued out by competing government agents which are designed to con the citizens that some “technical defeats” have been achieved.
Therefore, the media should hit Muhammadu Buhari hard the way CNN and Yahoo News are hitting Donald Trump for accountability. That is one of the means by which Nigeria can hit positive stride.
