The chairman of the state NBA, Kabiru Aliyu, cited extra judicial killings and interference in the administration of justice by an armed militia group ‘Yan-sa-kai’ in a communiqué issued to journalists as part of the reasons for their boycott.
It said the Yan-sa-kai group, which was established for checking banditry in Zuru emirate, turned to a militia group that had been tormenting lawyers and judges in the area.
It stated that the group was not only preventing litigants from attending court sittings but also stopped litigants from obeying courts order as witnesses were abducted and killed.
“Lawyers in the state will from the 3rd day of February 2021 to 24th February 2021, boycott all courts in the state for three weeks to show our dismay on the lingering cases of Yan-sa-kai.
“The lives of its members, judges, judicial staff, and litigants are in great dangers as a result of the activity of ‘Yan Sakai. Now, courts judgments, summons, warrants, and orders are no longer respected, obeyed, and cannot be executed for fear of intimidation by the group,” the communiqué read in part.
