Insecurity: Govt earmarks N500m to install CCTV

In an effort to address the prevailing kidnapping, banditry and armed robbery activities, the Nasarawa State government has earmarked the total sum of N500 million in the 2024 budget for the supply of electricity equipment and closed-circuit televisions (CCTV), in Lafia and its environs.

Daily Trust Saturday reports that in recent times, Gandu and Mararaba communities, which served as off-campus settlements for students of the Federal University Lafia in Nasarawa State, have come under severe attacks by kidnappers within the last three months.

In what has become a recurring decimal, two state-owned institutions – Isa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic, Lafia and Nasarawa State University Keffi (NSUK), have also been experiencing similar attacks within the same period.

The commissioner of Finance, Budget and Planning, Mrs Munirah Abdullahi, disclosed the amount for the CCTV project while giving a breakdown of the 2024 appropriation bill christened, “Budget of Renewed Commitment” at a press briefing in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital on Friday.

The commissioner stated that the 2024 appropriation which is tagged “Budget of Renewed Commitment” was proposed in consideration to tackle prevailing trends including insecurity to pave the way for development to thrive.
