The Fulani Development Association of Nigeria (FULDAN) says illiteracy is the major problem facing Fulanis in Nigeria, appealing to the federal government to address the issue.

FULDAN also tasked the Federal Government to act fast and address the challenges of the Fulanis and other Nigerians.

FULDAN Chairman Board of Trustees (BoT), Ahmad U Bello, stated this during the inauguration of new National leadership of the Association in Abuja.

The BoT Chairman described nomadic education as key for the emancipation of the Fulani tribe in Nigeria.

He also enjoined his people to embrace Western and Quranic education so that they can strive to contribute their quota to the development of the country.

Bello said “Nomadic education is key, so that those that are tending their cattle even in the forest can be educated. We also want to appeal to the government to together ministry of Animal husbandry, so that the issue of meat, milk and other animal products can be taken care of.”

He said when the Fulani are treated fairly like every other Nigerian, it will strengthen the unity, peace and development of the country.

In his remarks after the oath of office, the newly inaugurated chairman, Muhammed Bello, lamented that the Federal Government is not doing enough to address the illiteracy among Fulanis.

He assured that, the newly inaugurated FULDAN leadership will do everything to protect the lives and properties of Fulani across the country.

“We will put up a committee to liase with the Government. We will also ensure that the federal government do its part in carrying everybody along,” he said.
