The management of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, has trained 135 personnel in weapon handling.
Speaking at the Passing Out Parade (POP) yesterday, the commandant of the command, Olusola Odumosu, said it had become imperative to train and retrain the personnel of the corps to be able to stand up to emerging security challenges bedevilling the FCT and Nigeria at large.
He disclosed that the personnel had completed months of rigorous regimentation defined by global standards and were now ready to be deployed within the FCT.
“This is a worthy step taken to curb the challenges of vandalism and other vices hampering the peace and development of the Federal Capital Territory in particular, and the nation as a whole,” he said.

Security agencies have been struggling with the growing security challenges in the FCT which include vandalism, kidnapping and “one chance” robbery, among others.
Odumosu said: “From January this year till date, the command has arrested over 120 persons suspected to have engaged in vandalism of public facilities and theft.
“Out of these numerous cases, we have secured many court convictions and many are pending.”
He said with this new set of trainees, the command is better positioned to surpass its achievements in the fight against vandalism and the protection of lives and property in the capital city.
