An elder statesman and member of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Alhaji Yahaya Kwande, has attributed the current insecurity in the country to the failure of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
Banditry and kidnapping, in recent times, have ravaged many villages in the country with many killed.

Kwande, who spoke to Daily Trust in Jos, said: “The government has failed and the country is finished.
“People are killed at will by bandits and kidnappers.
“Security in this country has gone bad.
“Only God knows what is happening in the villages of this country. We are seriously living in fear.”
No place to hide
He said people in both cities and villages of the country could no longer ‘breathe’, adding that even visitors had become a threat to people in their houses and there was no place to run to.
According to Kwande, the lack of seriousness to arrest the insecurity at an early stage by the government of the day was what put the country in the current situation.
He explained that Nigerians seemed not to take the government seriously due to the attitudes of government and security agencies.
He, however, said for the country to be secured, the government: “Must go back to the drawing board and see what was done with the few security personnel that we were happy.
“The government and the opposition must come together for the sake of peace and stop throwing back at each other. The government can’t do it alone.”
Kwande called on the government to look at the security situation seriously before it would be late, adding that the government should put on hold all other activities in the country and focus on security.
In a recent interview, while reacting to the release of the Kankara schoolboys, President Buhari had said he was “extremely worried about insecurity and I hope next year will be different.
“Those among the law enforcement agencies that will remain in charge will be extremely busy”.
