Insecurity: Army to train 21, 885 personnel

The  Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) of the Nigerian Army Thursday said no fewer than 21,885 personnel of the Army would undergo various training in 2022 to boost their capacity in tackling security challenges in the country.

 Commander, TRADOC, Major General SO Olabanji, who disclosed this when he appeared before the House of Representatives Committee on Army to defend the command’s budget for 2022, said the training was designed for cadets, recruits and special forces.

Olabanji, in his presentation, made a proposal of N43.3bn for TRADOC in 2022 to cover personnel emoluments, capital and overhead components of the Command.

The budget proposal comprises N30.8bn for emolument of its personnel; N4.9bn for overhead and N7.4bn for capital projects.

He said the 2022 training by TRADOC was designed for 3,885 cadets expected to be commissioned by the Nigerian Army into the officers’ cadre; 18,000 recruits as other ranks and a further special forces training of 4,800 amongst those commissioned and other cadres.

Olabanji mentioned some aspects of the training to include watermanship, deep-diver, airborne and leaving off the land, target acquisition, tracker, assailing and repelling; counterterrorism and counterinsurgency, among others.

He said the training was geared towards beefing up the personnel strength of the army and increasing its fighting capabilities to bring solution to insecurity.
