The army on Tuesday announced the major redeployment of its general and senior officers to new roles and appointments within its headquarters and across the country.

Daily Trust reports that this came a week after the Nigerian Air Force redeployed its senior personnel across different theatres of operations, branches and headquarters.

Our correspondent also reports that the shake-up is due to the retirement of some senior officers among land troops and the latest decoration of the newly promoted army officers.

A statement on Tuesday by the Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, noted that the affected officers included some General Officers Commanding.

“The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Faruk Yahaya, has approved the posting and appointment of senior officers of the Nigerian Army.

“Those affected in the reshuffle, released on Monday 10, January 2022, including General Officers Commanding and other senior officers,” he said.

He said the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya, charged the officers to justify the confidence reposed in them and redouble their commitment to duty.

Those redeployed in the current posting are Maj.-Gen. GA Umelo from Defence Simulation Centre to Defence Headquarters (Defence Research and Development Bureau) and appointed Director-General, Maj.-Gen. V Ebhaleme is to remain in Defence Space Administration and appointed Director Support Services, Maj.-Gen. GB Audu from Defence Administration to Nigerian Army Resource Centre and appointed Senior Research Fellow among others.
