Rev Ifeanyi Nwachukwu, the overseer of Overcomers Christian Mission, Abuja headquarters, has called on Nigerians to deploy prayers and dialogue to solve the insecurity challenges facing the country.

The clergy, who made this call when speaking to the press during the Fathers’ Day celebration at the church in Abuja, said: “No country is without problems. The point is that problems are inevitable and when they come, there is a need for people to gather and seek solutions.

“If we, Nigerians, can gather together and seek the face of God, there is no problem without a solution.”

Speaking on the topic: “Child upbringing in a Christian family – An antidote to crime”, Deputy Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (rtd), Ewurum Evans Chidi, said the crimes in the society would be minimised if parents could bring their children up in the right way.

“Children upbringing is one of the most formidable tasks parents are expected to take on in life considering the fact that the family is the first school…where we learn to relate to others, to listen, to share, to be patient and show respect, to help one another and to live as one, yet the families seem to shy away from their primary responsibility.

“The byproduct of this neglect by our parents has brought with it negative influences on our children…. All these negative influences on our children seem to threaten the corporate existence of this country through a variety of crimes.”

He said to tackle the situation, the men’s fellowship of the church had decided to launch a campaign to enable the family to resume its neglected primary role of “bringing up the child in a Godly way”.
