Innovation challenge launched for FCT schools

An innovative programme aimed at instilling skill-based training in classrooms has been launched for schools in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Tagged Brunel-FCT Innovation Challenge, the initiative is being anchor by the FCT Secondary Education Board (SEB) and the FCT Department of Science, Technology, and Innovation (DSTI) in partnership with Brunel Business School, Brunel University London.

Organisers said the initiative seeks to build on Nigeria’s strength in skill-based training by equipping educators with the skills to cultivate an innovative mindset, breed collaboration and local problem-solving initiatives.

Speaking at the event, Ainurul Rasli, Professor of Enterprise and Entrepreneurship, Brunel Business School, Brunel University of London, said.

The Innovation Challenge was aimed at enhancing entrepreneurial capacity among Nigerian educators, promote innovative thinking and problem-solving, and foster collaboration between educators, industry experts, and policymakers. 

The result of this, she said, was the believe that the students would end up very sound and with an entrepreneurial mindset. 

Mr Olobashola Kolawole, the Director of the FCT Science and Technology, said the initiative was expected to have a lasting impact on Nigeria’s entrepreneurship ecosystem, driving economic growth and development.

Earlier, Dr. Muhammad Sani, Director and Secretary of the FCT Secondary Education Board shared his vision for the program, saying, “Teachers’ development is key to transforming education in Nigeria. We are building a foundation for impactful education by equipping teachers with the skills needed to nurture students who will drive positive change in Nigeria. The Brunel-FCT Innovation Challenge will empower our children to become local problem solvers, addressing environmental and societal challenges within their communities. We look forward to the initiation of our physical Brunel-FCT Entrepreneurship Centre.”

City & Crime reports that the organisers also announced that a Brunel-FCT Entrepreneurship Centre will take-off in the nation’s capital next year.
