It was jubilation in Nnewi and Ekwulobia prisons, Anambra State, following the simultaneous donation of two libraries to the prisons by Zaccheaus Onumba Dibiaezue Memorial Libraries (ZODML), a non-governmental organisation.
The inmates expressed joy over the gesture, describing it as a clear manifestation of service to humanity.
They pledged to take advantage of the provision of the library to improve their education and enhance their entrepreneurial skills and potentials.
The foundation’s Chief Executive Officer, Mrs Ego Mbagwu, said the decision to establish the libraries in prisons across the country was to encourage reformation and rehabilitation of the prison inmates, as well as make them readers for life.
Commissioning the libraries, the Comptroller-General of Nigeria Prisons Service (NPS) Alhaji Ja’afaru Ahmed, represented by the Assistant Comptroller-General in charge of Zone G, Mohammed Danladi Nata’alla, said the libraries would further assist in changing the mindset of the inmates.
