Inmate serving 21-year jail term rearrested after escape in Edo

Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have rearrested a 58-year-old inmate, Jacob Alonge, who was serving a 21-year jail term, but escaped from the Benin Correctional Centre during the 2020 #EndSARS protest.

It was learnt that Alonge was sentenced to prison by an Edo State High Court for raping his daughter, Gift Alonge.

The state’s Commissioner of Police (CP), Funsho Adegboye, said the police got credible intelligence that Alonge, a serial rapist and jail breaker, was sighted in Ossos in Akoko-Edo LGA, which led operatives to storm his house in the community only to some unscrupulous element who resisted his arrest.
