The five-day 2015 National Conference, Exhibition and Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) tagged National Integrated Infrastructure Master Plan (NIIMP) 2014: Strategies for Implementation opens today in Akure, Ondo State.
Engineers conference is avenue for setting agenda for government and other developmental stakeholders towards engendering good governance, economic growth and technological advancement of Nigeria.
Bridging infrastructure gap in Nigeria dominates discuss in this year’s conference.
Speaking with journalist last week in Abuja ahead of the conference, the president of NSE, Engr. Ademola Isaac Olorunfemi said, “The dearth of infrastructure poses a major challenge to our economic development and indeed constitutes impediment to the achievement of our national targets; likewise the present deplorable condition of the ones available seems to further exacerbate the situation.
“it’s regrettable therefore, to watch  our country lose large scale investments to neigbouring countries on account of decaying infrastructure.”
Olorunfemi who said the theme of this year’s conference is tailored toward exhausting all issues surrounding infrastructure in Nigeria as presented in NIIMP 2014, was optimistic that problems relating to energy, transport, mining, Information and Communication Technology (|ICT), housing, water, agriculture, social infrastructure and security will get answers at the end of the conference.
