President Muhammadu Buhari had re-nominated Yakubu for second term. He is awaiting the confirmation of the Senate.

It was reliably gathered that Yakubu, whose first tenure ends today November 9, may hand over to Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu, the only female among the six national commissioners who are not leaving the commission.
This is as the National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voters Education Committee (IVEC), Festus Okoye, told Daily Trust that one of the national commissioners, Engr. Abubakar Ahmed Nahuche, last week voluntarily retired, on health ground.
Okoye, who declined to mention who Yakubu would likely hand over to, told our correspondent that everyone should wait till Monday to see who among the remaining six national commissioners Prof. Yakubu would hand over to.
When contacted, the Chief Press Secretary to Prof. Yakubu, Mr. Rotimi Lawrence Oyekanmi, told Daily Trust that he did not have any information on who his boss would hand over to.
