The Independent National Electoral Commission says it will set modalities for Edo and Ondo states’ governorship elections.
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, said this in Abuja on Thursday after the commission’s management meeting.
He was speaking on the conduct of governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states scheduled for September 19 and October 10, 2020 respectively as well as the forthcoming by-elections in Bayelsa, Imo and Plateau States
He said the INEC would work out modalities for the ramping up of activities in Edo and Ondo states and would liaise with the security agencies and health authorities on resumption of work in both states as soon as possible.
He said: “The commission will resume engagement with political parties, civil society groups and organizations, the media and other stakeholders in relation to the Edo and Ondo governorship elections.
“The modalities for these engagements will be worked out and considered at its next meeting on May 14, 2020.”
He said the INEC barred staff above 58 years of age, pregnant women, nursing mothers and all other staff with underlying health conditions from resuming works at the commission nationwide.
The INEC had in March closed down its offices nationwide as directed by the Federal Government.
