The Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kano, Professor Riskuwa Arabu Shehu, has promised to conduct free, fair and credible rerun election in the state on March 23.
The supplementary election will determine the winner of Kano state governorship election which was declared inconclusive by the commission last Monday.
Shehu said the rerun was necessitated by cases of violence and over-voting which resulted to cancellation of election in some units in some local governments in the state.
He said the commission was commitment to the conduct of free, fair and credible election in the state.
“I wish to inform the general public that the Supplementary Election will be conducted on Saturday 23rd March, 2019 and INEC will ensure conduct of credible election in the state,” Riskuwa stated.
The resident commissioner said the election would be conducted in 210 Polling Units comprising 88 Registration Areas, noting that the affected Polling Units has a total number of 128,572 registered voters.
It would be recalled that during the Saturday’s election, the candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) got 987,819 votes while that of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled 1,014,474 votes.
