A chief magistrate court sitting in Isolo, Lagos State, has sentenced a 49-year-old Indian hemp seller, Wale Gbadebo, to one-year imprisonment for stabbing one Temilade Lawal.
The court convicted Gbadebo after he was found guilty of stabbing Lawal who he (Gbadebo) accused of stealing a wrap of hemp from his store.
The convict who pleaded guilty, however, told the court that he caught Lawal in the act and that he stabbed the victim with a knife for stealing his hemp.
The Prosecutor, Mr Oje Uagbale, had told the court that the victim was rushed to the hospital where he was treated and discharged.
He said the convict admitted to have committed the offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs O. A. Akokhia, found him guilty as charged and he was sentenced to one-year imprisonment without an option of fine for assault.
He was thereafter taken to the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, where he will serve his jail term.
