According to reports by Punch, Mr Tinubu made the comments in his statement titled ‘A return to decency’ where he said: “We commemorate this Independence Day because the nation has survived despite its many challenges, but we can not celebrate because the nation has not flourished as it should.”
His comments drew the ire of social media addicts who were of the opinion that he had no right to make such utterances. New Media brings their comments:
Fyne Fidel: Be the change you want to see in Nigeria, Mr Tinubu.
Chicken Licken: We have a lot to celebrate- we’re not fighting civil wars, we’re not plagued by Ebola. Don’t mind the man and his comments. Happy Independence Nigeria, may you increase from glory to glory.
Ed Dreamz: People who are supposed to make this nation great so that we can celebrate are the ones doing the opposite.
Nma: Well I think we do. If not for anything but God’s love upon our nation. So Mr Tinubu, thank God for his love and mercies upon Nigeria, a country he has blessed with lots of mineral resources.
