Independence Day: IBB golf club stages 3-day tournament

IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja is staging a 3-day golf tournament to celebrate Nigeria’s 58th year independence day.

The chairman, Independence Day Golf Tournament Organising Committee and vice-captain of the IBB Golf Club, Shola Awoyungbo, said the Independence Day Golf Tournament is feature a total number of 312 players from Nigeria.

He said they are all jostle for trophies and souvenirs in different categories, including men, ladies and veterans.

“Independence Day Golf event is a major item in the Club’s calendar and it is put together every year to celebrate our country.”

”It is part of our commitment and what we stand for in remembrance of our country. It is also to appreciate the government of the day for their achievement.”

“The matches play part of the tournament is a long tradition and friendship established with Ghanaian leading golf club, Achimota, and they are coming with 55 golfers,” Awoyungbo said.

Awoyungbo also said the club will host a Ghanaian leading golf club, Achimota Club of Accra, in an international match-play friendly as part of activities to mark the country’s independence anniversary which started on Saturday.

The Ghanaian contingent of 50 golfers were to slug it out with their Nigerian counterparts in a double match-play on the 18-holes golf course at the club.

Aside golf, IBB Club tennis section will also host 20 Ghanaian tennis players from Borma Tennis Club of Accra.
