Incessant clashes among youths in Dadinkowa

Dadinkowa in Yamaltu-Deba LGA of Gombe State has been facing incessant youth and communal clashes for years, endangering people physically and psychologically and endangering their lives.

The recent clash happened when a young boy was alleged to have stabbed a member of a vigilante group. Members of the group were said to have secretly apprehended the boy, and he was found dead the next morning.

This led to fracas involving the youths in the town, which left many people with various degrees of injury before the intervention of security agents.

Similarly, in February, a clash took place in the area when a boy harassed a girl, which degenerated into clashes between members of the boy’s and girl’s wards that led to loss of lives and property.

Many people living in the area were forced to flee in fear for their lives.

Dadinkowa is popularly known for irrigation farming and beautiful water reservoirs. The area is blessed with fertile soil, which enticed several people to migrate to the town to engage in farming.

I, therefore, appeal to the government and traditional leaders to take appropriate and immediate action for a dependable solution to the problem.

I also recommend that parents fulfil their responsibility toward their children by educating and sanctioning them against immoral acts. They should be counselled on the imperative of living in peace with other members of the community.
