In 50 years time, I want people to remember my art – Rema

Famous Nigerian rapper and singer, Divine Ikubor, aka Rema, has talked about developing his sound and creating work that would last for decades.

Rema said this during an interview with Apple Music Africa Now Radio hosted by Nandi Madiba.

He claimed that rather than just putting parts together, making music is a calling for him.

The hitmaker said he draws inspiration for his art from within since he sees himself as an instrument selected to make a difference in the world.

He said, “It’s impossible to make a gift appear reasonable when you’re endowed with it. It seems to me that this is more of a spirit-related issue rather than a brain-related issue. I didn’t have to study anything in order to connect with others.

“I feel like a vessel, to leave a mark in the world. It’s like I’m chosen for it so whether or not I try to run away from it, it’s just what it is.”

Rema’s cutting-edge artistic choices that transcend his visual language and sense of style have made him notable.

Rema added that he likes to collaborate with other artists to make wild ideas come to life.

“I encourage those who are innovative. You’re seeing all these amazing things related to my narrative, my travels, my branding, my images, and my pictures. These are just young people looking for someone to invest in them and help them bring their wild ideas to life; I’m not the one taking the pictures, I’m not the one filming the movies, I’m not the one doing any of that. I live like that, investing in the youth.”

After the success of his smash hit song “Calm Down” with Selena Gomez, Rema has continued to make his imprint in the worldwide music industry.
