The Importers Association of Nigeria (IMAN) has said it will expose those behind the illegal activities leading to insecurity in Nigeria.

It warned all the importers of arms and ammunition and sub-standard items into the country to desist.

The association said it would do everything possible to assist the federal government in its efforts to end insecurity caused by all forms of illegal importation.

Speaking on Friday in Abuja at its annual briefing and award ceremony, the IMAN’s chairman, Board of Trustee, High Chief Gilbert Obi, said the current state of insecurity in the country was a serious concern to the association “and we are not happy about it.

“We also know that arms are coming to this country but I know IMAN will expose these importers very soon.

“We have a lot to do to assist the government but I will not disclose it here.”

The IMAN BoT chairman said it was high time the federal government appreciated and gave more recognition to the organisation because “IMAN is playing an important role in Nigeria today. After the oil, it is revenue from importers government depends on.”

Also speaking, the director-general of IMAN’s task force, Amb Chijioke Okoro, said the association’s task force had been helping the government to fight economic saboteurs, even as he assured to do more.

He said what IMAN was generating annually is enough to run the country if more efforts were deployed.

On the challenge of insecurity, Okoro said the organisation had prevented several arms importation, assuring that the organisation will do more.

He, however, challenged all the officers nationwide to step up their games in exposing all the arms dealers.

“Though it is not easy, you must go back to your areas and step up your game against those that are importing arms that criminals are using to kill Nigerians.

“We have taken this responsibility on us to check those who are bringing arms and substandard goods into this country.

“If I find out that in your area, there is a form of sabotage, you as a commander in that area will be held responsible.
