The Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions has alleged that the decision of the Federal Government to implement the Oronsaye Report of 2012 is a license to retrenchment in some sections of the public service.
The union, in a statement on Sunday by its General Secretary, Prince Peters Adeyemi, noted that the agencies recommended for merger in the report were created by laws.
It said these laws must be repealed or amended; while agencies “created by the constitution will have to go through a constitutional amendment.”
It also said implementation of the report would cause job losses and poverty in Nigeria.
“There’s a lack of national employment policy in the country to eradicate unemployment. Therefore, it’s unacceptable for the government to implement any policy that threatens the security of jobs and entrench poverty.”
“If the implementation of the Report is all about cutting the cost of bureaucracy, the government knows what to do without the implementation of the recommendations of the Report.” the union said.
