Impeachment: Borno Rep threatens to sue colleagues over inclusion

Some national dailies had reported names of lawmakers who had signed Jonathan’s removal notice last week, which included that of Biye and other principal officers of the House.
But speaking to journalists in Abuja yesterday, Biye said he did not know how his name got onto the list and threatened to take legal action against those behind the inclusion of his name.
“A friend and many other people called me that I’m one of those who signed impeachment notice against the president. I’m a peace loving person and I member of TAN. So, I will never do anything against the president.
“Whoever did this, I will sue the person. The person(s) did it to blackmail us. No PDP member will sign any impeachment notice against Jonathan. In strong terms, I’m dismissing and disputing the list,” he said.
Asked if he suspected anybody to be behind the list, Biye said he saw some APC members signing a purported impeachment list at the chamber on November 20, and wondered why his name should form part of such list when he did not even go close to them.
“I will find out to see if it is the handiwork of an individual or groups of individuals,” he said, adding that “I will sue them for defamation of character. This issue can bring calamity and serious problem in the country.”
The lawmaker also said he would bring the matter before the House under personal privileges tomorrow when the lawmakers reconvene from their 5-week break. But some APC lawmakers had said that they were not aware of the list, saying they would not make their own public at this time.
