Former Commissioner for Information Technology in Imo state, Hon. Meekam Mgbenwelu, has resigned from his position as spokesperson of “Rebuild Imo Movement,” a political structure championing the election of former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha as the state governor.
The resignation of Meekam is linked to the Supreme Court nullification of the Senatorial primaries of PDP for Imo West (Orlu zone) that produced Rt Hon Jones Onyereri as candidate.
In his resignation letter, Hon Meekam maintained that it would amount to double tragedy for the people of Imo West Senatorial district (Orlu zone) if he continues to take refuge in the political camp of Ihedioha.
He said, “I can’t be part of a system that aided injustice to Orlu zone where I hail from and Imo people at large, wondering how Ihedioha could have the face to seek the support of his people when he has sworn never to allow us have a Senator of PDP extraction in the forthcoming 2023 general election”.
Meekam described Onyereri as his brother and a trusted son of Orlu zone.
Meekam served as Commissioner for Information Technology under Ihedioha’s seven months short-lived administration. He was appointed the spokesperson of the Rebuild Imo Movement three months ago, a political structure of Ihedioha aimed at re-electing the sacked Governor.
