The senator representing Imo East, Ezenwa Onyewuchi, Tuesday defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) citing division and crisis in his former party.
His letter of defection was read on the floor of the Senate by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, during plenary.
The letter reads in parts, “This decision is due to the intractable division and crisis in the Labour Party that sponsored my election into the Senate.
“We give our unflinching support to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and of course, support his administration aimed at achieving sustainable development for our country.”
Similarly, the member representing Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency of Kogi State in the House of Representatives, Salman Idris, Tuesday announced his defection from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmaker announced his defection through a letter read by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen during plenary on Tuesday.
Rep Idris said his defection from the ADC was due to a leadership crisis within the party.
