Imo: Police arrest IPOB members for ‘killing’ cop

The operatives of the Imo State Police Command have arrested six members of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) over the death of a police sergeant.

The suspects were alleged to have killed one Sgt Joseph Nwaka and took away his arms.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Orlando Ikeokwu, said that one AK47 rifle, four locally made guns and large quantities of marijuana, were recovered from them.

He gave the name of their leader as Onyeyekachi Maduforo, a native of Umudururkwe in Isu Local Government Council.

“As a follow-up, On 14th May, 2021, the Commissioner of Police deployed Anti – Kidnapping unit and other Tactical teams of the command to Amanato Isu LGA for the arrest of other gang members but were heavily engaged to a gun duel by the hoodlums (IPOB /ESN).

“The operatives successfully repelled and dislodged them.

“As a result of the encounter, five suspects were arrested at the scene, while others escaped with possible gun shot wounds.

“In the course of mopping up the scene, four locally fabricated weapons, six live cartridges and a large quantity of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered.

He said an investigation had commenced with a view to effecting further arrests after which they will be charged to court.
