One person was killed and three others wounded when men of the Imo State police command engaged some armed robbers in a shootout in Orji area of Owerri
A four-member gang had trailed Pastor G.E Nsofor of Holiness Evangelist Church Amankuta Mbieri, who had gone to a bank to withdraw some money.
However, on noticing the he was being trailed, the pastor ran to a nearby police station and raised the alarm.
But undaunted by the proximity to the police station, the robbers snatched the bag containing the money and fled.
They were however given a hot chase by men of the Orji police station and in an ensuing gun battle, one of the armed robbers was gunned down and others escaped with gunshot wounds.
Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer, SP Orlando Ikeokwu, said, “Today being the 07/06/2019 at Orji, opposite the police station at approximately 14:39s hrs, the Orji Divisional police operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer DPO, had a gun duel with hoodlums as a result of which one unidentified armed robber was gunned down.
