Leaders of transport unions and students Union of both Federal University of Technology, Owerri, and Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, had sent text messages to their members asking them to converge on Naze road junction, leading to the two institutions.
The protesters said they were also protesting against the bad road leading to their schools.
They chanted slogans, ” We want end to bad road”, we want end to increase in petrol and electric price”.
As one group blocked Owerri-Aba road, another group marched to the popular Warehouse road, leading to Orlu.
Commuters had hectic time getting to their various destinations as protesters prevented some commercial vehicle operators from conveying their passengers to their destinations.
