Anyanwu while presenting the deputy governorship candidate during an interactive session at the party secretariat in Owerri, described him as a grassroots politician who has the capacity of delivering Orlu zone.

Explaining that his choice of Onyereri was unanimously endorsed by the party, he said: “Having presented my deputy today I sincerely seek for your support. With your individuals support, we will surely win the race.”

While expressing no regrets that some of the party’s serving federal lawmakers left for the ruling APC, Anyanwu said their departure from the party would serve the party better.

PDP stakeholders seek Anyanwu’s resignation as national secretary

Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State have called on the National Working Committee of the party to prevail on the national secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, to resign.

Anyanwu is the flag bearer of the party in the November 11 governorship election in the state.

The stakeholders expressed worries that having been elected as the party’s candidate, Anyanwu does not have the moral or constitutional right to continue to hold onto the office.

In the letter which was signed by Chief Eric Ofodirinwa, the stakeholders expressed regret over the disenchantment of the party members, which had led to the gale of defections from the party.

They said that in the last count, no fewer than 12 PDP stalwarts and hundreds of the party’s followers across the state had left the PDP for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

The letter said, “For instance, three serving federal House of Representatives members of the PDP stock, on Saturday, decamped to APC.

“They are Bede Eke, representing Aboh Mbaise /Ngor Okpala Federal Constituency, Ikenna Elezieanya representing Owerri Federal Constituency, and Henry Nwawuba representing Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency.

“All these members of our party left because, in their views and based on the prevailing circumstances in the Imo polity, the national secretary has not shown any convincing latitude and seriousness that he is actually in contention for the November 11, 2023 governorship election as the candidate of the PDP and this is absolutely worrisome.

“It is on this pathetic note that we, the critical stakeholders hereby call the attention of the national headquarters of PDP at the Wadata Plaza, Abuja to urgently look into this issue and relieve him of his duty so he can concentrate on his governorship ambition and forthrightly dispel widespread insinuations that he is working for the incumbent governor,” the letter added.
