Imo councillors protest in Owerri, ask Oshiomhole to announce Nwosu as APC guber candidate

Over  645 councillors elected under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo state on Wednesday protested against the stalemate in announcing the governorship candidate of the party for the 2019 governorship election.

The councillors said that the party’s silence is unnecessarily heating up the political tempo in the state and asked the party leadership to announce Ugwumba Uche Nwosu as the authentic APC flag bearer for the election.

The protesters, who blocked the Government House roundabout, caused motorists to take alternative routes in parts of the metropolis.

They urged the APC national chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, to announce the governorship candidate of the party in the state.

The demonstrators also expressed angst at the automatic tickets given to four aspirants from the state by the national working committee of the party and demanded that the result of the October 6 governorship primary which produced Uche Nwosu as the winner should be announced and consequently submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Speaking through the chairman, Imo State Councillors Forum, Godwin Nwankwo, the councillors said that the uncertainty that had pervaded the governorship primary election is very unhealthy and unacceptable to them who are  in charge of the rural people.

Nwankwo vowed that any attempt to substitute Nwosu’s name with anybody’s would be stoutly rejected.
