The Yobe state Task Force Committee on Routine Immunization has asked traditional rulers to intensify campaign towards achieving more success in children’s immunization.
The committee made the appeal when it paid advocacy visit to Machina and Nguru Emirate council in Yobe state.
The committee chairman, who is also the deputy governor, Idi Barde Gubana, said a survey report recently conducted revealed that there was a higher number of children in northern Nigeria that were yet to receive immunization compared to the south.
He said Machina was among the local government areas with low coverage in the state.
Gubana said to fill in the gaps, the state has already adopted the National Primary Health Care Development Agency’s model of Name_Based community engagement strategy centered on the existing emirate system and traditional structures to sustain community participation and responsiveness to Immunization.
He tasked the traditional rulers to sensitize their subjects towards full participation in the review meetings, supervision, data reconciliation with health facility for harmonization among others.
The Emir of Machina Alhaji Bashir Al_Bashir Bukar Machinama regretted that Machina was among the local government with low performance in routine immunisation.
The monarch said that some of the challenges stemmed from the fact that the immunisation workers have not been reporting the case of rejection they encountered at the field on time.
According to him Machina has a difficult terrain which resulted to constraints in transpotation.
He assured that the performance would be significantly improved and directed all districts and village heads to ensure compliance.
