Immigration arrests American-Nigerian with firearms at Lagos airport

Operatives of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, yesterday, intercepted an American citizen with firearms.

The male passenger (names withheld), it was learnt, arrived the country aboard a United Airlines flight from Houston, United States, which landed at 10:10am.

The passenger was said to have checked in the firearms without declaring them as stipulated in international law on firearms’ carriage.

The firearms, a handgun, a Beretta and 26 rounds of 9mm ammunition, were concealed in his luggage.

The passenger was also said to be in possession of two international passports: Nigerian and American.

However, a source confided in our correspondent that the passenger had documents from the US which allowed him to carry firearms, but that the authenticity of the papers could not be ascertained.
