The Deputy Chief of Party of Strengthening Education in North East Nigeria (SENSE), Dr. Grace Malgwi has urged parents to support their children in early grade reading in the learners’ home language.
She made the disclosure at the Luggere Primary School in Yola, Adamawa State at a ceremony to mark the international Mother Language Day (IMLD), usually celebrated on the 21st February of every year.

Malgwi reiterated the need to celebrate the day with parents to enable them support their pupils while at home so as to enhance their reading skills.
“As we celebrate the International Mother Language day we are doing it together with parents because we want home support for children as the SENSE project supports them to improve their reading skills”. She stated.
The SENSE project is funded by the United States Agency International Development (USAID), American University of Nigeria (AUN) in collaboration with the Adamawa state government.
The project is aimed at targeting 11 LGAs in Adamawa and 10 LGAs in Gombe with 200 learners in both states.
The Chairman of Luggere Primary School management committee, Mr Muhammed Abdullahi, said the idea of teaching the student with their mother tongue would enable the pupils to learn fast.
