Nigeria’s number two player, Joseph Imeh, and teen sensation, Oyinlomo Quadre, have emerged champions at this year’s money spinnning Dala Hard Court tennis championship in Kano.

In the men’s final decided on Saturday, Imeh defeated Nigeria’s number one player Sylvester Emmanuel 6-3, 6-3 to successfully defend his title.

To reach the final, Imeh edged out youngster Musa Mohammed 6-1, 6-1 while Emmanuel ousted Uche Oparaoji 6-4,6-2 in the other semi-final match played on yesterday.

Meanwhile, fast rising Nigerian women’s tennis player, Oyinlomo Quadre, won her first Dala Hard Court title with a 6-2, 6-0 thrashing of Aanu Aiyegbusi.

Quadre’s final hurdle was made less difficult by her opponent who had caused a major upset by beating the defending champion and title favourite, Blessing Samuel 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 in one of the semi-finals.

Quadre herself defeated Patience Onebamhoin in straight sets of 6-0, 6-0 in her semi-final match to set up the grand finale with Aiyegbusi.
