Imamship tussle: Osun govt cautioned against disrespecting court order

The Ta’awunu Human Rights Initiative has cautioned the Osun State Government against disrespecting the order on the crisis surrounding the appointment of Chief Imam for Inisha Central Mosque.

The dispute over Inisha Central Mosque Imamship position led to the death of some individuals and the state government shutdown the mosque to prevent more deaths.

The State High Court sitting in Osogbo, the state capital in suit No. HOS/88/2021 had restrained Sheikh AbdulHakeem Muhammed Jamiu and 10 others from the leadership of the Mosque pending the determination of the suit.

The Director General THURIST-Nigeria, Barrister Sulaymon Tadese in a press statement described the development as a flagrant impunity and disrespect to court order.

According to him, “It is unfortunate that the Government of Osun State which is expected to ensure a strict compliance to the rule of law and the implementation of judicial order would be found nailing at the coffin of the rule of law.”

“The law is trite that any matter before the court unless by the agreement of both parties to any dispute for withdrawal from the court and same granted leave by the court, barred such matter from being entertained by any mediator as the case may be and we believe the Government of Osun State is very conversant with this.”

“We urge the Government of Osun State under the able leadership of Governor Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke to give the court its due as an arm of Government saddled with the responsibilities of interpreting our laws to arrive at a conclusion that will benefit the Muslim population of Inisha on the ongoing leadership crisis of Inisha Central Mosque”, Tadese said.
