Islamic leaders and Imams in Kaduna have condemned the Wednesday clash between youths and members of the Shi’a sect Kaduna, where three people were killed.

The Imams at a press briefing jointly addressed by Sheik Yusuf Sambo Rigachikun of the Izala sect and Sheik Umar Suleiman at Sultan Bello Mosque urged youths and other residents of Kaduna to embrace peace and harmonious co-existence in order not to plunge Kaduna into another round of crisis as experienced in the past.

They however blamed both the youths and the members of the Shi’ites movement for the unfortunate clash.

According to them, what is expected of Muslims on Ashura day is fasting and not demonstration and meaningless procession which led to the bloody clash.

"Our message to everyone living in Kaduna, whether you are a Muslim, Christian or athiest is that, let us leave in peace. Let us not allow any force to use us to cause unrest in Kaduna.

"What happened yesterday (Wednesday) is unfortunate and we condemn it. We are appealing to people to avoid temptation of causing another round of crisis in Kaduna," they said.
