I’m ready to defend Daily Trust golf title — Helen Ayo

The winner of the 2021 Daily Trust golf tournament, Uyo, Helen Ayo has declared her readiness to defend her title in the next edition.

The well attended one-day golf tournament organised by Media Trust Limited, publishers of Daily Trust was played on December 4, 2021, at the 18-hole Ibom Icon Golf Course in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital.

The Policewoman who spoke to Daily Trust at the TY Buratai Golf Course in Abuja commended the foremost media organisation for the all expenses paid trip to Rwanda after she emerged victorious at the tournament in Uyo.

She said “My trip to Rwanda was a fantastic one. It was through RwandAir and I enjoyed the perks of a business class. My victory at the Daily Trust annual event that was held in Uyo made it possible for me to spend a memorable weekend in Kigali.

“Everything from accommodation to even the caddie in Rwanda was paid for by Media Trust. I participated in their monthly event organised by the younger brother of their immediate former president. It was fun all through and I wished I stayed longer.”

While eulogising Media Trust, the avid golfer also urged other corporate organizations to emulate the leading media outfit in sponsoring more tournaments to bring up new talents.

“I’m proud of Daily Trust and I will be happy if other firms can organise such events and bring out the best talents. Media Trust should not relent in helping to bring out new champions.

“Personally, I don’t want my victory in Uyo to be seen as a fluke. I am ready to defend my title whenever the next edition of the Daily Trust golf tournament is staged,” she said.

Speaking further, she urged the Nigerian police to invest more in the game of golf.

“Actually, I can’t say the Nigeria Police has invested in me. It is like a personal effort. However, I play for the police team anytime we go for police tournaments.

“For now, the Police Force has been unable to put things together to see how they can care for those good players they use for tournaments. But I believe from now on, they will begin to do something,” said Ayo.
