Former caretaker committee chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi has denied having interest in running as a senator in 2019.
Makarfi contested with 11 others for the PDP presidential ticket but lost to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
But there have been reports that he is planning to contest for a senatorial seat in the 2019 elections.
The former governor in a statement by his media consultant, Mukhtar Sirajo, said he does not have such an ambition and that ‘nothing can be further from the truth.’
“His position is that, in accordance with democratic norms, all winners should, as of right be allowed to fly the party flags for the respective primaries they won,” the statement said.
“He believes that other people should be encouraged and given the chance to also contribute to the political process. This way, we will continue to widen the democratic space as well as deepen the process. “
