I’m not barren, Obaseki’s wife replies Oshiomhole

Wife of the Edo State Governor, Betsy Obaseki, has charged childless women not to be discouraged as they can fulfill God’s purpose in various ways beyond motherhood.

Obaseki spoke on Saturday at a virtual Town Hall Meeting, organised by Edo women in diaspora for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo.

“I am not a barren woman; I am fruitful and currently fulfilling God’s purpose,” she said.

She was responding to a question by one of the diaspora women regarding the remark made by Senator Adams Oshiomhole on her being childless.

Oshiomhole’s outburst was in response to Betsy’s statement at a rally in Igueben that only Ighodalo has a wife among the leading contenders.

“As a human being everyone is structured to have a purpose in life, it wouldn’t matters if jabs are thrown at you.

“I had conceived and had miscarriages and painful evacuation and as result babies died in our wombs and don’t have children to show for the pains” she said.

While encouraging women like her who had to cope with pains and miscarriages, she said “for such women, my word of comfort to you is that you are not barren and don’t be discouraged.

“I call you fruitful. You and I are potential and proud mothers of children,” she said.

She explained that being fruitful is not limited to childbearing alone but also about impacting lives and creating positive change in society.

The wife of the PDP governorship candidate, Ifeyinwa Ighodalo, commended the Edo women in diaspora for organizing the meeting in support of husband.

She pledged to continue the social intervention programmes for women instituted by the First Lady if her husband is elected.
