Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has expressed worry that Nigerians are yet to begin to tap from the potentials of pharmacists in the country.
Ikpeazu also acknowledged the contributions of the members of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) in improving health care services in the state.
The governor spoke while receiving a delegation of the PSN led by its President, Ahmed Ibrahim Yakassai, saying Nigeria was yet to begin to tap from the potentials of pharmacists.
“I yearn for the time when 90% of pharmacists in the country would be engaged in manufacturing and production of one drug or the other,” he said, maintaining that the time he would know that Nigeria has started to tap from the potentials was “when some of our folk medicines would have been validated in a scientific way and endorsed for use.”
Earlier, PSN president Ahmed Yakassai said the team visited to brief the Governor on the 90th National Conference of the body holding in the state.
Yakassai commended the governor on his efforts at developing the state, especially his promotion of the ‘Made in Abia’ products.
