The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the duo were ferrying the baby aboard a Chanchangi flight from Owerri, Imo State.NAN learnt that two passengers aboard the flight had observed the strange behaviour between the baby and the woman and alerted the airline crew members.
An eye witness who simply gave his name as Chika told NAN that he sensed that something was wrong when the woman started to feed the child with biscuits while the child continued to express discomfort and resentment.
The witness added that on arrival at the airport, the crew member handed the woman to security operatives.
Confirming the incident, the DPO at the domestic wing airport police station, Mr Ayuba Pam, said the woman and her London-based lawyer daughter were arrested following a tip off from two passengers on board the aircraft.
“They noticed that the five-month old baby boy cried profusely aboard the flight as the elderly woman fed him with biscuits. “The cry of the baby, the passengers explained, prompted them to interact with the elderly woman, who told them that she was taking the baby to her daughter in Lagos for adoption,’’ he said,
He stated further that both the woman and her daughter were being detained in the police station to offer useful statements that would assist the police in their investigation. (NAN)
