The organisers of the 7th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs) have announced TV host and media personality, IK Osakioduwa and Kenya TV/Radio Presenter, Amina Abdi Rabar, as co-hosts for the event.

The event, sponsored by Amstel Malta and organised by Africa Magic, would also featured a special award category – Best Dressed Male and Female – in recognition of the best dressed guests on the red carpet at the event billed for Saturday, March 14, 2020 in Lagos.

While IK Osakioduwa would be returning as a co-host for the umpteen time, Amina’s first time appearance on the show as co-host is expected to add glamour to the event.

Amina Abdi Rabar is one of the leading Kenyan TV and Radio Presenters, who began her radio career with Homeboyz Radio and later moved to Capital FM where she hosts Capital In The Morning, the station’s flagship show.

As a TV host, Amina has worked on various shows on the DStv platform such as: MNET’s Lifestyle and Entertainment Show ‘Mashariki Mix,’ ‘Moments’ on Ebony Life TV, ‘Maisha Superstar’ on Maisha Magic East and currently ‘The Turn Up’ on Maisha Magic East.

She has also worked with various brands as an ambassador and hosted a variety of music concerts, corporate events, award shows, product launches and gala dinners.

Commenting on the co-hosts, Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu, Channel Director, Africa Channels, said: “We are excited to present Amina Abdi Rabar as the new female co-host of the 7th edition of the AMVCAs.

“She is vivacious, full of wit and has a very cheerful personality. We look forward to her and IK bringing some magic on stage as we gather to celebrate the best in film and television.”

Meanwhile, the newly introduced Best Dressed Award category is aimed at celebrating the best of fashion and style at the glamorous event while honouring outstanding performances in film and television across the continent, the organisers said.

“We are excited about this new category because not only is the AMVCAs a night when the best stars in African film and TV are celebrated, it is also famed for being the biggest showcase of fashion, glitz and glam on the continent,” Mba-Uzoukwu added.

She further explained that the AMVCAs have also been a significant contributor to the growth of other ancillary industries including the fashion and beauty industry.

“We look forward to this addition to the awards event and we urge celebrities and guests to make a bold statement on the red carpet and enter for a chance to win the inaugural AMVCA Best Dressed statuette,” she said.

She noted that the award for the Best Dressed Male and Female at the event will be voted for on Instagram by fans and viewers across the continent on the awards day.

“Attendees interested in this award are to be on the red carpet between 4:00pm and 5:00pm to have their pictures taken in a specially designed AMVCA photo booth.

“The top 50 (25 for men and 25 for women) will be selected by a constituted AMVCA Style Council and shared on Africa Magic’s Instagram account @africamagic.

“Fans will then be given the opportunity to vote by indicating their likes for their favourite picture between 6:00pm and 7:00pm.

“During the live award show, the male and female pictures with the highest likes will be the winners of the first-ever award for the AMVCAs Best Dressed, which will be announced on stage.

“The event will be broadcast live on all Africa Magic channels on DStv and GOtv at 4pm WAT,” she stated.
