The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris on Wednesday decorated Ibrahim Danjuma with his new rank of Commissioner of Police (CP) after being acquitted over alleged killing of five traders and a woman in 2005 at Apo, Abuja.
Danjuma was decorated alongside 14 others recently promoted to the rank of CP by the Police Service Commission, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
He was suspended from duty and charged on allegation of extra-judicial killing alongside Othaman Abdulsalam, Nicholas Zakaria, Baba Emmanuel, Ezekiel Acheneje and Sadiq Salami as co-defendants for felony.
An FCT High Court Presided by Justice Ishaq Bello discharged and acquitted Danjuma who was the first accused person, while Emmanuel and Acheneje were sentenced to death.
Shortly after the decoration ceremony the IG cautioned police officers to avoid temptation from political actors as the 2019 election draws near.
Felding questions from Journalists the IGP denied allegations of disobedience of court orders over the unsealing of Peace Corps headquarters.
He said the Police has appealed the court order, adding that it had asked the court to stay execution of judgment on the matter.
He also said the Special Anti-Robbery Squad would now focus on violent crimes.
He also distributed cheques to some beneficiaries of the maiden IGP welfare insurance scheme.
