Ahead of 2019 general elections, the Igboezue Cultural Advancement Initiative (ICAI), has on Thursday endorsed and adopted President Muhammadu Buhari for re-election in the 2019 general elections, saying literally that the devil they know was better than the angel they did not know.
Addressing a press conference tagged, “The Igbo Nation and The 2019 Presidential Election,” at the Dome Event Centre, New Haven Enugu, its National Leader, Chief Chekwas Okorie said it would be foolhardy of the Igbo to put their political eggs in one basket, a political blunder, he said, the Igbo committed in 2015 which boomeranged on them.
Daily Trust recalls that Chief Okorie as the founder and National Chairman of United Progressive Party (UPP), had few days ago in Abuja used the UPP’s plank to endorse President Buhari for re-election in 2019.
Okorie told newsmen in Enugu that considering their deep analysis and wide consultations, Igboezue had resolved to collaborate with the UPP to chart the political way forward for Ndigbo in Nigeria.
He added: “We also align with UPP in its wise decision to endorse and adopt President Buhari as Presidential candidate for the 2019 election.”
He said that Igboezue would do everything within its power to ensure that Ndigbo “do not put all their political eggs in one basket either now or in the future,” adding that “we shall work for the completion of President Buhari second term in office in order to pave the way for a patriotic Igbo man or woman to be elected President of Nigeria in 2023.”
According to him, four more years of Buhari’s government would be by far better and more bearable than the possible eight years of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar administration “which will bring back to our people the sad memories of 16 years of PDP emasculation of Ndigbo.”
