The Ndigbo Unity Forum (NUF), a pan Igbo socio-cultural group, has urged politicians to stop using the killing of soldiers by insurgents in the country for political campaign.
The President of NUF, Mr Augustine Chukwudum, made this plea on Thursday while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu.
Chukwudum said that it was morally wrong and ungodly for “one to use the blood of another to gain cheap political point.
“The political elite and other people should stop using the killing of our soldiers for politics and political campaigns because these are gallant officers, who should be appreciated for paying the ultimate sacrifice.
“Politicians should stop blaming our service chiefs and President Mohammadu Buhari for what has happened.
“if there is anybody to blame, that person is former President Goodluck Jonathan, who never took drastic steps to stop Boko Haram in the North East during his tenure in office,’’ he said.
Chukwudum, however, lauded Buhari for his war against Boko Haram insurgency.
“The NUF is commending the president for visiting Borno State to sympathise with the families of soldiers, who were killed or wounded by the Boko Haram insurgents.
It will boost the morale of our soldiers, who have been fighting day and night to make sure that Boko Haram is totally eliminated,’’ he said.
According to him, NUF is calling on the Federal Government to compensate the families of our slain soldiers with a minimum of N20 million for each of the slain soldiers.
Chukwudum said government must ensure that the education of the slain soldiers’children would not be hindered because of the loss of their breadwinners and those wounded should also be compensated with five million naira each.“
This kind of gesture will help our security personnel to double their efforts in securing the nation,’’ he said
