The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has directed the homicide section of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, to take over the investigation of the alleged killing of a student of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, AbdulQoyum Ishola, by policemen last Wednesday.
The officers involved have been identified as Inspector Abiodun Kayode, Inspector James Emmanuel and Sergeant Oni Philip, attached to the Department of Operations, Kwara State Police Command and they have been consequently detained.
In a letter with Ref No.CZ.5300/FPRD/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.6/230, dated September 9, 2024, and signed by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Egbetokun described the incident as sad and unfortunate.
He acknowledged the profound grief and loss caused by the act and reassured the family and members of the public that justice would be served.

City & Crime reports that the polytechnic’s SUG President, Comrade Saheed Ishola, on behalf of other students, on Monday, issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the police to unveil the identities of the operatives involved in the killing or face “a ceaseless peaceful protest” in the state.
