The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) has distributed 861 vehicles to support the implementation of a Climate Change Adaptation and Agri-business Support Program in seven states: Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Jigawa, Borno and Yobe.
The program is a six-year $93 million project being implemented in the seven states identified to be worst hit by climate change.
Speaking in Katsina to launch the distribution of the vehicles, IFAD Agri-business Specialist Achem Bello said the states were selected based on their exposure to the adverse effects of climate change, particularly desertification and low rain fall.
Each of the benefiting states, he said, would get 119 motorcycles, three Hilux vehicles and a Special Utility bus.
The Special Adviser on Agric to Governor Aminu Bello Masari, Dr. Abba Abdullahi, assured the state’s prompt release of counterpart funds for running the program.
